An Invitation to Contribute….
As a part of our mission to develop and support an international community of academics, researchers, and practitioners in crisis and risk communication, we want to build that community through our regular face-to-face conferences, online workshops, publications with the JICRCR and Annual Proceedings from the ICRCC. However, we also recognize the value and importance of building excellent virtual resources to be used for learning and training purposes. Therefore, we would invite members of our community to become contributors.
How to contribute
Becoming one of our contributors is easy…
- Send an email from the account that you would like linked to the ICRCA website requesting to become a contributor to icrca@wearecrisiscomm.com
- You will receive an invitation to be a contributor from the website — follow the instructions from that email to confirm your email address
What to contribute
The materials you contribute can be multi-media — you can include video and audio (see separate instructions for this), visual (photos, graphics, etc. — all must be original and/or with copyright release), and text. Anything that you contribute will be reviewed for appropriate content and, presuming appropriate content, then scheduled for release on the website. There are a few basic rules:
- The content must be related to risk and/or crisis communication.
- Language use must be professional.
- The content must be your own — you may not use any copyrighted materials. Your submission is verification of your declaration that all material is owned by you.
- Written text must be between 400 and 1000 words only. Even if the primary content that you submit is audio/video, there should be a brief introduction to the material.
- Aside from the audio/visual material, contributors should have their post laid out as they want it to appear and include the following information: (1) identify the category(ies) their post contributes – please only check the categories that are relevant to the post; (2) include tags (i.e., words or phrases used in the post to help improve its searchability); (3) include a featured image, and (4) write a 20-30 word excerpt.
How to Contribute Audio/Visual Material for the Post
All of the audio and visual material that we post will be linked to the ICRCA YouTube Channel and that link embedded directly into the post. Our contributors should clearly note where that material should be inserted but we will handle the uploading and linking of the material. Once a post is ready and contributors are to the point of uploading audio/visual material — send downloadable link to the file to icra@wearecrisiscomm.com. Acceptable formats are: MP3, MP4, and .ppt. No other formats will be accepted. All audio/visual material should have a cover picture included — this can be the same cover picture the contributor used for the “Featured Image”.
what Kind of content are we interested in
Aside from the obvious that it is connected to risk and/or crisis communication, we welcome most kinds of content ranging like:
- Plain language summaries of published research (with a link to the article)
- Case studies and success stories
- Brief (i.e., 5-7 minute) reports, mini-lectures, or presentations
- Interviews with noteworthy academics or practitioners about their perspective(s) on risk and crisis communication
- …and much more
Please use the categories list as guidance to the types of topics that we consider appropriate, but it is also possible to post recruitment announcements as well.
This is a wonderful initiative. Thank you for doing it.
