The International Crisis and Risk Communication Association (ICRCA) is a professional and academic organization of crisis and risk communication scholars, practitioners, policy-makers, and teachers dedicated to fostering research and education toward improving both the understanding and practice of crisis and risk communication in a variety of contexts. ICRCA was founded in 2023 and builds upon efforts by a number of universities and organizations to promote the field of crisis and risk communication. The association primarily maintains a website (in addition to social media groups), hosts an annual conference (with online proceedings), and publishes The International Journal of Crisis and Risk Communication Research.

Mission Statement and Goals

The mission of the ICRCA is to both unite international experts and expand the fields of crisis and risk communication as disciplinary domains focused on education, research, and practice.  ICRCA strives to:

  1. Promote dialogue among diverse stakeholders, including organizations, agencies, policy-makers, researchers, community leaders, and those impacted by crisis and risk
  2. Advance policies that acknowledge and respond appropriately to crises and risks
  3. Contribute to social justice by supporting those groups facing risks due to marginalization and inequity
  4. Promote research in the areas of crisis and risk communication
  5. Connect with related fields and promote interdisciplinarity
  6. Facilitate translational research
  7. Facilitate transnational collaboration
  8. Facilitate networking
  9. Mentor junior scholars and practicing professionals
  10. Enhance crisis and risk communication best practices in an ever-changing landscape of global risks and cascading mega-crises
